We’re looking for a new Associate Blog Editor

Join our Senior Assistant Editor and Associate Blog Editors in developing ‘Animal Ecology in Focus’, a dedicated blog for the Journal of Animal Ecology.

The Animal Ecology in Focus blog supports the journal by acting as a platform to discuss the latest ecological research, debates in fields and general topics of interest to ecologists. It is the primary route the journal offers to authors and members of the animal ecology community for communicating aspects of their published research to a wider audience and in a more accessible way. With over 30,000 views per year, the blog features summaries of articles published in the journal, and posts covering current news relevant to the field of animal ecology. The blog has also recently been accompanied by The Ecology Podcast, the British Ecological Society’s podcast platform.

The Blog Associate Editor will collaborate with the journal’s Senior Assistant Editor, Ivy, to identify, commission and deliver high-quality content for the blog and provide copy to promote the blog and individual posts via the Journal’s social media accounts. They will collaborate closely with the Senior Assistant Editor, fellow Associate Blog Editors, and the journals’ editorial board to offer regular posts and develop the blog over the duration of the appointment.

The Blog Associate Editor will gain excellent experience in commissioning and editing, have the opportunity to write for the blog while having early access to articles on some of the most cutting-edge advances in the field, have the opportunity to host podcast episodes, and also have the chance to be supported to review articles when appropriate.

We are looking for an active ecologist who regularly engages with social media, has demonstrable and relevant experience and a passion for helping researchers communicate important new findings in animal ecology.

This is a voluntary position with the Blog Associate Editor working remotely from wherever they are based. We welcome applicants from any academic career stage and from anywhere in the world.

For more information please contact the journal’s Senior Assistant Editor, Ivy Briden, at ivy@britishecologicalsociety.org. To apply, please send a CV and a covering letter briefly detailing why you are interested, relevant experience you may have, and your ideas for developing the blog to admin@journalofanimalecology.org. Please title the email as ‘Associate Blog Editor Application’.

Closing date: Sunday 29 March at 5:00 PM BST. Please note that we might close applications early if we receive a high number of submissions.

Journal of Animal Ecology is a journal of the British Ecological Society. The BES values the benefits that diversity brings. We seek to create an inclusive culture and welcome applications from all sectors of society.
